About 500 acres of low ground around Torosay Castle is farmed in hand. For conservation reasons - about one fifth is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest - the farm is very lightly stocked, with 200 Cheviot ewes, and 25 pedigree Highland cows and followers. All the cows are home bred and originate form stock acquired from Auchnacraig in 1990. Stock bulls have come from Achnacloich, Earn, Beinn-latha-ur, Inversnaid and Lagg.
The Fold has Elite Health status, being accredited free of IBR, BVD, Johne’s and Leptospirosis.
Top quality breeding stock is usually available. We welcome visitors and enquiries – please contact Chris James
Mull is generally acknowledged to be poorer quality land and has very high rainfall, but the Highlanders are well adapted to the conditions here. Our hardy stock, when taken to better ground, may be expected to thrive particularly well.
